COVER OF THE WEEK

GENSIS "Trespass"

#8 is an early Genesis album, Trespass.
This 1970 release was Genesis’ 2nd album and here we can hear the group leaving pop for progressive rock. Compare Trespass and the debut From Genesis To Revelation, and you will notice the heavy change.

The covers of the early Genesis albums sure are worth looking at. Here we have some of the finest cover art of 1970’s progressive music. Paul Whitehead’s painting is in a romantic mood.
It shows a medieval (royal?) couple standing in a castle or something, looking out on a Tolkien like landscape, all in blue shades. The knife on the back side of the cover, making a cut in the canvas, makes a bizarre relief. Also check out the devil like sculpture in the right corner.

Artist Paul Whitehead did two more album covers for Genesis; Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot. Whitehead’s fondness of horror is fully developed on the artwork for the next Genesis album, Nursery Cryme, which will soon appear as Cover Of The Week.
