ALBUM OF THE MONTH

DAVID BOWIE "Heroes

Album #68 is Heroes by David Bowie.

Yet another album release anniversary, yes it's now 30 years since Heroes was released (October 1977).

At the time Bowie's carrer took a new step. The album Low came in January the same year and pointed out the new direction: Bowie had moved to Berlin to collaborate with Brian Eno. The influences of electronic music and German (kraut)rock were obvious.

The first 5 songs on Heroes are all very strong songs, more of rock songs compared to the rest of the album. The title track is one of the most essential Bowie songs. Tracks 6-9 are slow and dark instrumentals or songs with very sparse vocals. Some CD issues include two bonus tracks: Abdulmajid and an alternative mix of Joe The Lion.

Heroes is the 2nd part of the so called Berlin or Bowie/Eno trilogy. (Lodger is the 3rd one).
During October Radio Dupree will play all tracks from Heroes plus related stuff i.e. Heroes songs from the Stage live album, songs from Low and Lodger and even some Iggy Pop from the same era (produced by Bowie).
We know that some of you listeners urge for MORE BOWIE on this station. Well, you got it!
