ALBUM OF THE MONTH |
Album #67 is Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention - ´tis The Season To Be Jelly from 1991. We do not usually have bootlegs as album of the month, but here is one exception: "'tis The Season To Be Jelly" with Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention. This is a concert that took place in Stockholm on September 30, 1967...(yep, this is a 40 years celebration of that magic night in Konserthuset). The show
was recorded by Sveriges Radio for broadcast later. They made several
historic recordings at that venue back then: Hendrix, Cream, Kinks,
Otis Redding... In the early 1990's Frank Zappa decided to hit back at the bootleggers. He let Rhino Records release 2 boxes of selected boots, under the title Beat The Boots. "'Tis The Season To Be Jelly" was included in box number one. The recording is a rare document of an early lineup of The Mothers, but the show could have been more exciting. Frank was sick after drinking italian tap water and probably had to leave the stage now and then. The 2nd half of the recording consists of the instrumental King Kong which develops into typical Mothers madness. The highlight
is the rare song No Matter What You Do. A song that could have
been perfect for the Freak Out! album. Frank gave the intro to Animals
when producing a couple of songs for their Animalism album.. S.H. - September 2007. |
