ALBUM OF THE MONTH

FZ & TMOI "Absolutely Free"

Album # 62 is Absolutely Free - Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention from 1967

Hip hoorray...we are celebrating the 40th anniversary or this old piece of anarchistic psychedelia! (Well, some sources claim that it was originally released in April 1967 while others say it was released in May that year.)

Absolutely Free is probably the Zappa album that was recorded in the shortest time. It took the boys 25 hours to get the music down on tape.
What we get is a rough album with a lot of buffoonery. Zappa said that most of the material came from two underground oratorios that The Mothers performed at their stint at The Garrick Theater in New York City at that time.

This may not be the most beloved album among the Zappa fans, but nonetheless it includes songs that are considered to be some of the most important by Zappa/Mothers, Brown Shoes Don't Make It and Plastic People for instance.

We will play all the songs from the CD, but also music that links to Absolutely Free in one way or another.
