COVER OF THE WEEK

#3 is the cover of Jean Shaw's LP "Jean Shaw and her Magic Mallets ".

Have you ever bought a record solely on the look of the cover?

Well, I have! Most recently when me and Siggy checked out one of the local shops for cheap finds.
When I saw the record and the title I just had to buy it.

10 Swedish kronor for a LP released in 1973.
Not surprisingly the music didn't live up to the title, but thanks to a full text on the back of the cover I learned that this marimba-playing babe was born in New Jersey and began to study and play the instrument at the tender age of seven.

Jean has had her own TV-show called "Marvels in Marimba", produced more than 100 radio shows called "Magic Mallets" and recorded this LP in the studios of the radio station HCJB in Quito, Ecuador!!!

A couple of scratchy vinyl offerings from the LP will grace RadioDupree's playlist this week.
