COVER OF THE WEEK

THOMAS DOLBY "The Golden Age Of Wireless"

# 23 is The Golden Age of Wireless by Thomas Dolby.

Back to 1982. Get an infections song played on the radio (She Blinded Me With Science) and package yourself as a slightly mad scientist type of machinery operating synthesizer manipulator on your debut album.
It's as easy as that! And that's exactly what Mr Dolby did. And using a distinctive persona to package his music wasn't a bad idea with MTV starting and videos needed.

On the back of the original vinyl album you can see him in the dark, with glowing lab equipment and what loooks like a hose of some kind attached to his head.
On the front a picture looking like an old time poster drawing/painting of him too busy to look up. He's making music using machines...

Synth-pop popularity waned and Dolby's followed suit. He had a handful of hits, a handful of albums - of which one; "Aliens Ate My Buick", has a cover that is worth checking out if you like those old B-movie sci-fi posters.

The 80s drum sound hasn't aged well, but the rest hold up pretty well. Well enough to get a sping this week on RadiDupree.
