COVER OF THE WEEK

#2 is the cover of Frank Zappa's CD "Zappa In New York". The front picture is taken by Frank's son Dweezil and is a rather blurry photo of a wintery parking lot. But along with the artist's name and album title in neon letters this makes a really spiffy package.

There is a quite interesting story around the album (of which we will play a couple of tracks this week).
It was recorded in late 1976 with Frank's band plus some additional guests for the N.Y.C. shows, the Brecker Brothers among them.

The first vinyl release (2 LPs) included the track Punky's Whips which tells the story of drummer Terry Bozzio's homo erotical thoughts on Punky Meadows of the group Angel. Warner Brothers must have thought this was a little too much since they left the 11 minute song off the album which resulted in a very short A side and made the graphic layout look bad since the lyrics weren't included either.

But the censored track IS included on the CD release, lyrics too, as well as some bonus tracks.
The CD has a different mix compared to the vinyl, however. We at RadioDupree favor the original vinyl mix OR the Läther CD which includes most of the songs from the In New York album.
