COVER OF THE WEEK

GENESIS "Trespass"

# 12 is "Nursery Cryme" by Genesis.
Artist Paul Whitehead had made the cover for Genesis’ previous album Trespass. A rather romantic view of a Tolkien like landscape, but the knife stuck in the canvas makes a bizarre relief.

The theme of hidden horror continues on Nursery Cryme.
The cover painting is in bright and yellow colours and shows a view of victorian era countryside recreational activities...upper class people are walking around in the distance.
A game of croquet...a girl is rising her mallet to hit a croquet ball...But wait!...It’s not a ball...It’s the chopped off head of a child!

The inner fold out has the lyrics and some tasteful illustrations to each song. Enough details to get the listener occupied for a while, in very tasteful graphics.
The croquet painting was inspired by the opening track The Musical Box: “...While Henry Hamilton-Smythe minor (8) was playing croquet with Cynthia Jane De Blaise-William (9), sweet-smiling Cynthia raised her mallet high and gracefully removed Henry’s head...”
